[Focus] The EU intends to use the Type-C interface as the port of the wired charger uniformly

On June 7, 2022, at local time in Europe, negotiators from the European Parliament and the 27 EU member states reached an agreement to unify all portable electronic device charging interfaces in the EU after two years, that is, to decide to standardize uniformly in 2024. Charging equipment requires that mobile phones, tablets, cameras, etc. must have a unified charger interface.

According to the agreement, by then, all portable electronic devices such as mobile phones, tablet computers, e-readers, digital cameras, earphones, laptops and other portable electronic devices in the EU region must be equipped with a USB Type-C interface as a port for wired chargers. The agreement will be formally ratified after the summer and published in the Official Journal of the European Union. And wireless charging technology is still one of the options in parallel with USB Type-C.

The EU's move may bring the world's non-USB Type-C interface products to an end.

At the same time, the EU is also working on new regulations for external power supplies in the ErP directive to implement the goal of USB Type-C as a universal charger.

About USB Type-C

USB Type-C is a USB interface form factor standard, also known as USB-C in the industry. It has a smaller volume than Type-A and Type-B, and can be applied to both PC (master device) and external devices (slave devices, such as mobile phones) interface types. The USB-C interface has many advantages such as positive and negative insertion, fast charging, and high-speed transmission.
